A Question of Conscience
Have you ever found yourself in a room without light carefully feeling your way around so as not to hurt yourself on objects that may be in your way? Have you ever thought what it means to live in the most absolute darkness? Can you imagine the feelings of frustration and sadness of those who have to face life each day without being able to see the light?
Preventing Blindness, One Volunteer at a Time
Living in the dark is the terrifying reality of many people who suffer blindness; it is our mission to help them regain their eye sight. But we can’t do it alone and need the help of a large group of volunteers and doctors. Together we fight blindness each and every day by organizing eye examinations and the surgeries people so desperately need to prevent the onset of blindness in a growing number of patients throughout Vietnam.
What must be Done
Because of the level of poverty our patients have to endure, in some cases so bad that blindness takes a second position to hunting for food on a daily basis, it is up to us to fund the transportation, examination and surgery of those in need. We also take care of their post-operative care when it is required. We work very hard to find these funds and rely heavily on those who volunteer their time and knowledge to prevent the onset of blindness in those who simply can’t afford to pay for proper care.
Bringing Hope to Those with Cataracts
Approximately 18 million people ranging from young adults to the elderly are affected by cataracts around the world, causing them to become blind and rendering them unable to lead productive lives. Even so, cataracts can be easily cured with a simple surgery to restore the patient’s eyesight. Unfortunately, many of those who suffer this condition simply can’t afford the cost of this operation and must quietly suffer in the dark because of it.
A Life Changing Procedure
On the opposite side of the spectrum, those who have been able to have the surgery will tell you their lives have been transformed and they are now looking forward to long, productive lives instead of becoming a hindrance to their loved ones. The time has come for us to make a difference in somebody’s life by bringing hope to those who need it the most. Did you know that only $50 can fulfill the dream of a cataract patient of seeing again? This amount covers the cost of the surgery, medical staff, operating equipment, surgical instruments and patient aftercare, making a little go a very long way.
You Can Make the Difference
It is said that small actions are those that resound the loudest in a world of darkness, and we have found it to be true. By getting involved in our project to bring back the light to people’s lives you will not only be helping them achieve a dream but also making a powerful and positive impact on your own life, one that will be remembered for many generations to come when others speak of the one person who cared enough to help them see again.
How You Can Help
You can help us get the word out to the world by retweeting and sharing our stories with your friends, family and network, by becoming a volunteer, becoming a monthly sponsor, or by donating as little as $1 a day. Because you have the power to transform the lives of those living in the poorest countries around the world, take action against blindness today!
